5 Tips on Achieving Work-Life Balance in the Times of Covid

There used to be a time when work-life balance was just coined as a phrase to be written in documents and HR manuals but covid-19 made sure that mental health and wellbeing of the employees were the prime focus of all employers. These are indeed tough times and while most employees based out of commercial office space in Kolkata are working remotely, it gets all the more crucial to try and achieve a healthy work-life balance.

Although striking that perfect balance is only a myth because what works for some may not work for others. When to comes to having that work-life balance, it’s important for everyone to do their own thing but with the help of some simple tips. Here are some tips on striking a cult work-life balance:

1.    Design a Well-organized Work Schedule

It’s easy for the remote employees to start working as soon as they get out of the bed and keep working till late night. While for many it may seem like an ideal work-from-home situation, it is a highly unhealthy practice to do so because you won’t know when your personal and professional lives are crossing each other multiple times during the day.

Which is why, it’s ideal to set a structured work schedule for yourself and stick to it. Leave the bed early in morning, get done with your chores, and then hit your work station. Call it a day when your shift is over or you feel exhausted.

2. To-do List for a Productive Day

While we may have learnt this in school but making a task to-do list for the day ahead always helps. It helps you know what exactly you’re supposed to accomplish during the day.

It also makes sure that you remain productive during the day and not waste your crucial time in prioritizing the tasks. It gives immense gratification to strike out the completed tasks from the day’s list.

3. Keep Personal Life Boundaries

It’s obvious that most of us live with our families and there are bound to be times when you might feel distracted at work due to what’s going on in the house. However, it is always advisable to crate some work and personal life boundaries that keeps both separate.

Communicate ahead with your spouse about your plans for the day, meetings, and your need of a peaceful atmosphere at home. This will not only help you maximize your productivity but also keeps everything organized leaving you multiple time for family and kids later.

4. Have a Designated Workspace

The covid situation is here to stay for long and while many of us thought that a workstation at home is a wasted investment, think again. It’s extremely important to have a clearly designated workspace at home that is free of distractions, oozes productivity and set the tempo straight for the day.

A separate workspace helps you switch off from the work after your shift is over and you’ll know when it’s time to clock in and out.

5. Take Small Breaks

As you did in the office earlier at the commercial building in Kolkata, keep getting up from the desk at frequent intervals to avoid muscle issues due to prolonged seating. Get up to refill your water bottle, feed your pet, grab a quick snack for yourself, or simply just take a small walk around the house to ward off fatigue.
